Job Summary

As a Principal Engineer you will be part of an established and experienced national civil engineering team, with a base in Birmingham, working on a diverse range of significant development infrastructure projects (across all stages of development) for a range of Clients. You will also have the opportunity to contribute to, and be part of, a proactive learning environment within a wider national community of infrastructure engineers.

Job Duties:

+ Lead the delivery of infrastructure design.

+ Manage technical and commercial project delivery.

+ Provide technical oversight and direction.

+ Provide a client focused service which results in on-going satisfaction and repeat business.

+ Build effective relationships within teams, across the organisation and externally.

+ Provide leadership to a small team with line manager responsibilities.

+ Produce project reports for client and internal reporting requirements.

+ Support work-winning initiatives.

+ Contribute to developing the company’s business including technical skills development.

Specific Skills Required:

We recognise a variety of experience and backgrounds may suit this role. Without being prescriptive we are seeking the right blend of skills from the following list, with the understanding experience levels in specific technical areas may vary.

+ Good communication skills with Clients and project stakeholders.

+ Uses analysis of relevant information and own judgement to make robust decisions.

+ The ability to oversee and produce the design of highways, access roads and infrastructure of projects including the design of road geometry, public realm, earthworks, pavements, drainage and services.

+ To understand and apply relevant standards and guidance.

+ An awareness of road design using 3D computer modelling packages, such as Civil 3D.

+ A knowledge of drainage design including piped systems, SuDS based systems and familiarity with storage design and computer programs such as MicroDrainage.

+ Experience of producing Flood Risk Assessments.

+ Ability to compile specifications and drawings for tender and construction.

+ Commercially aware.

+ Mentoring and development of others.

+ Work winning.

Minimum Requirements

+ Experience in UK development related infrastructure engineering;
likely to be from a private/consultancy background.

+ Performs various management, leadership, and people accountability responsibilities for a specific technical group or department.

+ Has full responsibility for interpreting, organizing, executing, and coordinating technical assignments.

+ Generally requires multi-disciplinary knowledge of engineering.

+ Plans and develops engineering tasks concerned with unique or controversial problems. This involves exploration of subject area, definition of scope and selection of problems for investigation and development of novel concepts and approaches.

+ Maintains liaison with units within the organization and individuals inside and outside of the organization.

+ Responsible for acting independently on technical matters pertaining to the field. Work at this level usually requires extensive progressive experience.

+ Works under minimal supervision. Supervision received is essentially administrative with assignments given in terms of broad general objectives and limits.

+ Manages group of engineers and/or technicians, coordinating activities of the unit.

Preferred Qualifications

+ A Chartered Engineer, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
