The role is based within the UKRI Financial Control Team which is part of the UKRI Finance Directorate. The role is key to supporting UKRI’s Financial Control Team achieving its core objectives
Ensure delivery of UKRI’s Financial Statements, and those of its component entities, ensuring that they meet Accounting Standards, HMT and other UK Government requirements
Drive improvement to existing processes and align with harmonised UKRI financial policies and processes
Facilitate operational delivery through providing financial support and operation of key financial controls.
The role will be focused on supporting Innovate UK which is part of UK Research and Innovation working specifically on Innovate UK financial accounting and control activity (supporting the IUK Senior Financial Accountant) to ensure delivery of both Innovate UK entity accounts and UKRI Financial Accounts, and drive improvement to existing processes and align with harmonised UKRI financial policies and processes.
Innovate UK drives productivity and economic growth by supporting businesses to develop and realise the potential of new ideas, including those from the UK’s world-class research base.
Support work across teams to improve the system capability of Innovate UK’s Workday platform, and further develop and test financial controls and processes of the platform
Contribute actively and constructively to continuous improvement of the UKRI Finance function, effectively working with colleagues to improve financial controls and harmonise processes across teams
Build and maintain good working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, such as the BEIS, Finance and UKSBS colleagues developing a network to facilitate effective delivery
Contribute to timely and effective delivery of UKRI Finance’s and the Financial Control team’s core objectives.
Preparation of required Innovate UK monthly and year end journals including GRNI journals
Regular review, reconciliation and resolution of exceptions within accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets and suspense or clearing accounts, including aged debtor analysis and GRNI
Production of the Innovate UK Counterparty and Whole of Government Accounts figures reported to BEIS, our parent department, liaising with entities that Innovate UK transacts with to agree in year transactions and year end balances
Cash flow forecasting liaison between Financial Control colleagues and Innovate UK Strategic Finance Business Partner, inputting with IUK monthly cash forecasting requirements
Maintaining the Innovate UK fixed asset register, including Innovate UK Monthly fixed asset movement journals, analysing and obtaining information on tangible and intangible assets to be capitalised, and validation of assets held in the fixed assets register
Support Innovate UK Senior Financial Accountant as required to complete interim and year end accounts preparation tasks at pace to required deadlines
Support Innovate UK Senior Financial Accountant as required to complete regular VAT returns
Support Innovate UK Senior Financial Accountant to effectively resolve at pace queries from GIAA during internal audits and NAO interim and final accounts audit queries
Support Innovate UK Senior Financial Accountant with communications to customers and stakeholders.

Shortlisting and Interview Criteria
Part qualified accountant (CCAB, CIMA or equivalent) or equivalent experience working in an accounting environment
Strong evidence of direct contribution towards preparation of Draft Financial statements for audit from trial balance
Evidence of working with financial data to identify exceptions and issues, and take corrective action
An ability to prioritise tasks and work under pressure to tight deadlines
Good inter-personal and organisation skills
Good liaison, networking and negotiation skills
An ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
Effective team worker, able to provide support to colleagues and work flexibly on own initiative
Strong collaborative skills and the ability to develop good working relationships with others, especially when working in a cross-disciplinary environment
Although more advanced training can be provided, A good working knowledge of Microsoft Office and particularly a strong knowledge of Excel including formulae and controls.
Experience of using an existing UKRI ERP accounting package (Oracle or Workday currently preferable)
Understanding of Government requirements and guidance relevant to the role FReM.
