Domus have a really exciting opportunity for a Head of Care (Children Residential) to join a national provider of specialist therapeutic children’s homes and schools for boys and girls with social, emotional and mental health difficulties (SEMH).
The role involves overseeing he management of four Ofsted registered independent children’s homes, supporting and working with a team of Registered Managers.
We are looking for someone who has had extensive and successful experience as a senior leader within children or young person’s care environment, within commuting distance of Newbury, Thatcham, Swindon, Reading, Basingstoke and other surrounding towns and villages.
You should have a positive work ethic and be able to work effectively to produce an effective leadership team.
Job Summary and Duties
The Head of Care role is a senior operational management role responsible for the management of the care services.
The role is responsible for the direct line management of the registered managers and indirectly assistant managers.
The Head of Care is also responsible for the operations, quality of care, safety and financial performance of those services in line with the group’s vision, mission and values.
You will be working with a team of registered managers who have a lot of experience working with children and young people with social, emotional and behavioural difficulties.
As part of this role, you will be required to develop the registered manager’s performance and abilities, so good communication skills and the ability to lead and manage strategically are vital.
This new position has been created with a view to developing the successful candidate to eventually take on the registration responsibilities of the Berkshire &
North Hampshire homes as the service grows.
This role requires significant sector experience, with additional experience managing large homes (5 beds+) or multi-site children’s service.
You may also be required to support across the other home in the Oxfordshire area so flexibility and travel should not be an issue.
You should have extensive knowledge surrounding the safeguarding of children and young people, as the main responsibility of the Head of Care will be ensuring that safeguarding procedures are implemented correctly.
We want someone who places a focus on the positive outcomes of the children and takes responsibility for helping improve the lives of our young people.
While the experience of working with children and young people with special educational needs is desirable, excellent leadership skills, the right motivation and personal qualities are just as important.
This role is offered on a permanent, full-time basis, working 40 hours per week, flexibility is essential.
Key Skills Required
Hold a Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health &
Social Care and Children &
Young Peoples Service and a Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare or equivalent.
Must have experience as a senior leader within children or young person’s care environment.
Experience liaising with local authorities.
Experience of independent visits and QA processes
Experience of leading CPD in care and safeguarding
Must have developed effective leadership teams in previous work
Full UK driving licence and be prepared to drive as part of the role
